Changing Your Air Filter and Why It's Important!

One of the biggest mistakes homeowners and tenants can make is forgetting to change their air filters on a regular basis! This can cause a long list of problems at your home as well as your finances and health.

Typically you should be changing your air filter every 3 months but there may be certain scenarios that require you to change them more frequently! Owning pets or having children may be a reason to replace your filters every month to keep the air in your home clear. If you suffer from allergies, changing out your filter more frequently can help keep the air in your home clean and you feeling good!

Another reason you want to stay on top of replacing your air filters is to save money on your energy bills. When an air filter goes months and months without being replaced, the HVAC system in your home is having to work harder to cool or heat your home. This will cause the system to run for longer periods of time and increase your energy usage and bill.

Along with high energy bills, if you do not complete proper maintenance to your HVAC system including replacing your air filters often, the system will strain itself and begin to need expensive repairs and eventually a full replacement. This can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars out of your pocket!

TIP #1: When replacing your air filters you'll want to confirm you are purchasing the correct size. You can find this on the sides of the old filter. When swapping the old filter for new, be sure the arrows on the new filter are pointing towards the unit.

TIP #2: If you see dust and debris in your filter, it's time to replace it- even if it's been less than 3 months!
